TrainTracker: Predicting Train Delays for NJ Transit & Amtrak
Linear and logistic regression model predicting delay length and probability across a regional rail network
Trains are a timeless mode of transportation that has revolutionized the world. This linear and logistic regression model serves as an experimental use case that could be replicated across other U.S. transit regions to enable more efficient inter-state travel planning. The study processes historical train delays from 2017–2019 and predicts both the expected length of a delay per trip and the probability of a delay occurring at all.
